...is usually ok and I get away with it most times but when it comes to certain things like deadlines it doesn't help at all. It sucks. But it's a personality trait and I've just got to accept it that I'll never learn.
So here's the deal. I have to hand in a uni project - a research dossier, proposal and script for a 30-min current affairs documentary film - by the 14th of April. Originally the deadline was in March , and it still was in March when I booked my flights, so I didn't think I'd have anything to worry about. Then they went and moved it, the bastards!
For most people this wouldn't have made any difference as they would've still got it done for the original deadline. I'm not most people, even though I was trying to to kid myself that I'd still be able to hand in my project before I went away. I'm the most useless person ever when it comes to deadlines, even though in my CV I list 'ability to work for tight deadlines' as one of my assets - and I can, sort of, I do work best under pressure but I loath deadlines more than anything else, possibly.
So, I've got to leave to the airport in about six and a half hours time and my current dossier word count is... zero. The word count for notes and different beginnings is impressive, on the other hand. But does that help? Does it hell . The research dossier, proposal and script for a 30-min current affairs documentary film is coming to Costa Rica with me, and I'll be spending the first couple of days of my Big Adventure in an internet cafe typing away, cursing myself.
Great, just great. Only me could do this to themselves...
Anyway. I started this blog thing because I wanted to a. keep a travel diary for myself and b. tell anyone else who is interested a bit more about what I was up to when away - also a way of letting you know that I was ok and not being getting into too much trouble. So thanks for reading, if you got this far, and would be lovely to get comments of course.
I'm only away for 3 1/2 weeks but it's a big thing for me as I haven't travelled alone like this before, also I have no fixed plans apart from flights (i.e. London to Costa Rica tomorrow, out of Nicaragua three weeks later to NY, stopping there for 3 days before flying back to London again. Oh, and a room booked for the first night in CR... and in NY. I've some ideas on what I'd like to do in the next three weeks but if I did everything I wanted to do I'd have to stay much much longer so I'm just literally going to 'go with the flow' and see what happens. It might be interesting, it might not, so read at your own risk.
Right. The clock is ticking .
